Building mountains:
the art of relief models: on the trail of Xaver Imfeld
|
|
The "Building mountains" exhibition at the Swiss Alpine Museum recounts the adventures met while
surveying and representing the Alps - suitable for adults and children. Graphic explanations and educational
methods illustrate the passage from the two-dimensional map to the 3D relief model. You will discover a
craft where art and the knowledge of nature meet. Using original maps, panoramas, relief models and
letters, a part of the exhibition focuses on the life and work of Xaver Imfeld (1853-1909), Switzerland's
most renowned creator of panoramas and relief models, cartographer and engineer of his time. He produced
more than twenty sheets of the "Siegfried map", drew over forty Alpine panoramas and constructed thirteen
relief models of the Alps. |
